When visiting The broad, i was able to view free of charge one of the more impressive private collections i have seen. While most visiter's flocked to the main gallery space full of multiple Jeff Koons sculptures and painting, I found my way to a hidden corner on the second floor tucked away and empty but full of energy and intensity. On the walls were three of Kelly's pieces. Each one dynamic and engaging with its use of contrast through color, shape and the containment of edges. Ellsworth Kelly is an artist I am heavily influenced by, the way he creates these compositions deeply resinates with me. The elevation of the everyday, the oddity of forms and the various conditions that create visual interest in unlikely ways.
