The New World: "Outlander"

Costume designer Terry Dresbach present approximately 20 costumes from season four of the acclaimed television series "Outlander" inspired by the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon. The show follows time-traveling 20th-century doctor Claire Fraser and her 18th-century Highlander husband Jamie Fraser as they try to make a new home for themselves in colonial America. Materials, silhouettes, textures and details in Dresbach’s historically accurate work reflect this novel environment, and does a terrific job in expressing how settlers and indigenous people adapted styles of dress due to the merging of cultures. Dresbach and Curators choose to presents these costumes within a dramatic installation with cinematic and sculptural elements to complement the early American landscape. The event marked the first costume exhibition to take place at the SCAD Museum and due to the success Im sure wont be the last.
